Sviri

Sviri PDO is in the central west of Georgia in Imereti, extending along the left bank of the Kvirila river. The vineyards stretch across the northern slopes of the southern foothills of Middle Imereti.

Wines have been made in the PDO since 1962. Traditionally, Sviri Krakhuna wine was famous for its quality. Otskhanuri Sapaere grape was usually added to give it more colour – resulting in a kind of Imeretian claret, a light red wine. Today, the appellation comprises three villages – Pirveli (‘first’ Sviri), Meore (‘second’ Sviri) and Rodinauli. It allows three different white grapes Tsolikouri, Tsitska, Krakhuna, to make a vibrant white with high acidity and rich citrus and yellow-fruit aromas.

There are only two wineries making Sviri PDO wines – Khreba Winery & Imeretian Wine Company.
