Interview with an Importer - Kakha Guliashvili, GeoNaturals

A proud Georgian and UK resident, Kakha Guliashvili brings more than wine to Britain—he brings connection. His importing business, GeoNaturals, is a personal mission: to represent the beauty and heritage of Georgian wine and traditional products to curious and open-minded UK drinkers. We talked about his motivations, favourite wines, and how he makes newcomers fall in love with Georgia with every bite and sip.

How and when did you come to the idea of importing Georgian wine?

I’ve been living in the UK since 2010, and watching the awareness around Georgia and its wines grow has been amazing. The situation now is incomparable to 15 years ago. I always wanted to do something related to Georgia, and wine was the obvious direction—but I had to build a life here first, so I started with a local job.
During the lockdown, I felt a strong pull again. In 2021, after many conversations with producers, I brought in my first small batch and launched the website.

Is it B2B, B2C, or both? Where can wine lovers find the wines you import?

I sell to restaurants and several retailers, but also directly online. I love being close to customers, so you’ll find me at the weekly market in Winchester—a traditional Saturday market with a great atmosphere.

Main challenges you’re facing when selling Georgian wine, and how do you overcome them?

Getting listed in supermarket chains is tough, and I’d really want it to happen one day. There are many factors: price is one of them. Imported bottles, corks, and expensive transport add to costs, and we have to work hard to communicate what makes our wines unique.

Can you please share some pleasant moments related to your Georgian wine connection? Any achievements you’re proud of?

I love events where I can pour wine and tell stories—our wines need that personal touch. Seeing people fall in love with Georgian wine, buy a bottle, and then come back for more is truly rewarding.
We also run a Wine Club subscription and a seasonal Supper Club, which always brings surprises and joyful discoveries.

Who is your favourite type of customer?

Anyone who loves wine! Most of my current customers are British millennials, curious and open to trying something new.

Which wines are your bestsellers?

I carry a broad selection from KTW, from entry-level wines to premium options like Château Askana and Guramishvili’s Marani.

I also recommend Villa Mosavali and a small producer called Terra Georgia. They make wine with a great character!
In terms of style, full-bodied reds—Saperavi, Mukuzani—are the top sellers, while amber wines remain a curiosity.

Are there any new arrivals or events we should be looking forward to?

I’ve opened a small takeaway spot near Olympia in London, and I hope to grow it into a place for tastings and events. For now, you can also try our food and wines at the Winchester Market.

Your message to UK wine lovers.
