An exemplary larger producer, Schuchmann has shown the world the versatility, consistency and appeal of contemporary Georgian wine. Co-founded by German industrialist Burkhard Schuchmann and famed Georgian winemaker George (Gogi) Dakishvili, the winery was distinguished from the start by its commitment to both Qvevri and ‘European’ wine of global quality standards.
Their elegant qvevri wines are bottled under the “Vinoterra” label, and are imported in to the UK by The Wine Society. This range encompasses a red wine made from Saperavi, and two Amber wines made from aromatic Kisi, and the grippier Rkatsiteli. Their ‘European’ range is labelled “Schuchmann”, and includes the appellation wines Mukuzani (for red), Kindzmarauli (sweet red), and Tsinandali (aromatic white). Also in this range are bright and brilliantly priced varietals from traditional Georgian grapes, including an irresistibly juicy Saperavi, and a bright and aromatic Mtsvane.
The winery is a renowned enotourism destination, with a charming wine bar, hotel, and luxurious wine spa. The spa is sustainably run, and offers treatments and products using grape and wine products, famed for their antioxidant properties. The winery also offers a three-year vocational training course for aspiring Georgian wine makers.
