In just two decades, Askaneli Brothers has grown to become one of the most dynamic large producers of Georgia. The name is derived from the village “Askana”, in Guria. This southern region of Georgia is a byword for eccentric creativity, and a dry, black wit. The Chkhaidze family are important Georgian business owners, with interests that include property development, as well as wine. Their entrepreneurial flair is reflected in their diverse product range of wines, chacha and brandy. The company has invested substantially in the wine sector, and owns wineries in Kakheti and Guria. As with many successful Georgian entrepreneurs, their interest in wine goes beyond the purely commercial, and they have dedicated considerable resources to developing Georgian wine culture, and have been involved in the project to bring back into production the indigenous Chkhaveri grape variety. The wine range includes classic European style wines, and an excellent and accessible range of Qvevri wines, called Dora. Co-owner Jimi Chkhaidze has also given his name to their latest innovation, Jimsher Whisky. This latest development is not as unexpected as it may first appear, as the company is well established as a distiller of some skill, and has a high reputation for their Georgian Brandy. Highly visible in Georgia, Russia, and the CIS states, the company is now looking to develop their European exports.
