Georgian winemaking boasts an 8,000-year history, with its unique range of indigenous grape varieties and ancient winemaking techniques. The country’s diverse terroir, ranging from the mountainous regions of Kakheti to the fertile plains of Kartli, contributes to the production of a wide range of distinctive and complex wines.
“We are thrilled to see Georgian wines receiving such high praise in the UK competitions,” said Sarah Abbott MW who leads the campaign for Georgian Wines in the UK on behalf of the National Wine Agency. “These awards are a testament to the hard work and passion of the winemakers who are dedicated to developing the UK market, and who, every year, listen to the judges’ feedback and seek to improve their wines. As consumers increasingly seek out new and exciting wines, Georgia offers a unique and compelling proposition, combining ancient traditions with modern winemaking techniques.”
The investment in the UK market by the National Wine Agency of Georgia over the last seven years has resulted in the growing list of distributors throughout the market, including an increasing number of listings in the multiples, making the wines even more accessible to consumers. The Georgian Wine UK awareness campaign continues to educate trade buyers via masterclasses, participation at Trade Fairs and tastings, and incoming trips which allow trade and press to experience Georgia for themselves.
