Napareuli PDO is located in Kakheti, on the left bank of the upper part of the Alazani River. Both red and white dry wines are permitted in the PDO.
White wines are made of Rkatsiteli. The wine’s light and straw-coloured, with aromas of wild flowers.
Red wines are made of Saperavi. They’re distinguished by their deep dark red colour, velvety texture and well-developed bouquet.
Although it doesn’t have great name recognition, among those in the know Napareuli is regarded as one of Georgia’s top appellations of origin. Saperavi here produces a wine totally unlike other Georgian wines, with leather, smoke and tobacco on the palate.
