Kvareli PDO is designated for red wine only. The 100km squared region lies at the foot of the southern slopes of the Greater Caucasus mountain range in Inner Kakheti. It spans the left banks of the Alazani river and it’s tributary, the Bursa river.
The appellation is about 450 meters above sea level and has mild winters with long, warm summers.
Wine has been produced under the PDO since 1966. They must be made from the red Saperavi grapes and are rich and fruity in style.
