New importer Deguste have the biggest selection of Georgian wine outside Georgia – and already have plans to double their selection.
Native Georgians Nodor Baghishvili and Giorgi Tkeshelashvili met while they were working at the telecoms company, Veon, as head of B2B and CEO respectively.
Their shared passion for Georgian wine brought them together and sparked an idea. “Georgian wine is a hidden gem for most on the world,” they say. “There are lots of super great wines in the world, and Georgian [wine] is definitely one of them. The fact that wine enthusiasts [in the UK don’t have many opportunities] to try it needs to change. The wine themselves are different in every way. There are new grape varieties, new terroirs and even the wine making technology is unique.”
This is where their techy background comes into play. “We believe the we have the ability to give wine enthusiasts the opportunity to enjoy great new Georgian wines with comfort and style.” They had the skills to make the shopping technology to make this dream a reality.
So, what makes them different from other Georgian wine specialists in the UK?
Firstly, and most significantly, they currently have the biggest selection of Georgian wine outside Georgia – and plan to double their selection. “We are an equal opportunity wine merchant, In most cases companies either sell their own wine or work with few exclusive winemakers, which doesn’t give customers much diversity in terms of wine or price. we have a big selection of great wines.
Second, they control the whole process of bringing wine to customers themselves. So, they source, purchase, import, sell and even deliver the wines themselves. This end-to-end process means they can have a greater range of entry-level priced wines.
“The UK is a great country, with some of the best people and definitely a lot of passion for wine,” they say. “We are in the very beginning or our UK adventure, so we will need a lot of passionate supporters to join us on our journey. Our aim is to do good things and bring joy to as many people as we can, with this belief we invite everyone to join our community and do good things together.”
