The @GeorgianWineUK Trade and Press Tasting returned to London yesterday, with more than 100 trade and media professionals registered to taste a range of more than 150 Georgian Wine.
Fifteen importers of Georgian Wine exhibited and poured their wines. Exhibitors included national agents such as Berkmann Wine Cellars, Hallgarten, and Boutinot, pouring the wines of Tbilvino, Vachnadziani, and Teliani Valley respectively. Fine wine specialists such as Clark Foyster Wines and Lea and Sandeman presented their Georgian Wines from Dakishvili Family Wines and Nareklishvili and Sons respectively, which they supply to some of the UK’s most acclaimed restaurants, as well as to the indie retail sector. The wines of Ori Marani were provided by on-trade specialist 266 Wines.
Specialist importers of Georgian wine including GinVino, Okros Drinks, Taste of Georgia, GeoNaturals, Gardabani, Georgian Wine Society, Georgian Wine Club, Transylvania Wines, and Basket Press Wines showed a diverse range of wines from scores of Georgian producers from across the country, representing all major regions and styles.
A masterclass on Georgian Wine was led by Sarah Abbott MW, featuring 9 wines selected to reflect the range and quality of contemporary Georgian wine. Guests at the masterclass heard how exports of Georgian wines to the UK had increased 10-fold from 2017 to 2021, since the National Wine Agency of Georgia commenced its market support program.
You can view the producers and wines taking part in the tasting booklet Georgia Wine Tasting Booklet 2022-5, and watch some instagram video interviews with the importers here.
Producers whose wines were shown in the tasting reflect the diversity of the Georgian wine industry, including both large and established names to new boutique estates.
We will be publishing tasting notes and feedback from the tasting over the coming weeks.
Upcoming events include a trade tasting in Manchester on 11th May.
